Counseling support and quit-smoking medications are each effective alone. Using them together can more than double your chances of quitting for good!

Call 1-800-QUIT-NOW (1-800-784-8669) for free coaching and support 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Friends or family of smokers can call too!

The MA Smokers’ Helpline provides free counseling over the phone for adults and, for those medically eligible, up to 8 weeks of nicotine replacement therapy.

You can also enroll online and access quit support at MakeSmokingHistory.org

Massachusetts Smokers' Helpline is offering an incentive program to residents who use mentholated tobacco products

 

Menthol Incentive program details:

  • Residents will receive $10 after completing the first coaching call, $15 after the second coaching call, and $25 after the third coaching call.

  • If residents enroll online, they must complete coaching calls via telephone to receive the incentive(s).

  • This incentive program may be time limited pending utility and availability of funds.

  • In addition to the incentive program, up to 8 weeks of free Nicotine Replacement Therapy is also available to residents who speak with a coach (once screened for medical eligibility).

  • Patients are also encouraged to take advantage of the Helpline's full offerings including a total of 5 coaching calls, unlimited calls to the helpline, and online support.

Quit Tips

Making a major life change during a global pandemic will be a challenge, but you can do it. Quitting can take multiple attempts and every try counts. Reach out when you need support and be kind to yourself if you face setbacks. Here are a few tips:

Set a date. Set yourself up for success. Choose a date, mark it on the calendar, and prepare.

Tell a friend. Having someone to hold you accountable can help you succeed in quitting. Set up text or video calls for support along the journey.

  • Black Lives / Black Lungs is a short film investigating the tobacco  industry’s successful infiltration into the black community.

  • The new stories featured in this year’s Tips From Former Smokers® (Tips®) campaign offer two perspectives: people living with serious illnesses  caused by smoking, and those caring for loved ones with smoking-related  disease. 

  • The We are Not Profit Campaign features facts about how the tobacco industry uses African-American civic leaders to manipulate the Black community. 

Youth Resources

In partnership with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, This is Quitting powered by truth® is a free and confidential texting program for young people who vape.  Young people can text “VapeFreeMass” to 88709 to get started.

My Life, My Quit (TM) has youth coach specialists trained to help young people by phone or text. Young people can call or text “Start My Quit” to 855-891-9989 for free and  confidential help or visit mylifemyquit.com to sign up online.
